Our Laser
At the Australian Institute of Eye Surgery we chose the Bausch
and Lomb 217C-Lasik Excimer Laser. It is the first refractive workstation
in the world designed specifically for Lasik and is acknowledged
as one of the most advanced lasers available.
This advanced spot scanning laser allows the surgeon increased flexibility
to treat shortsightedness, longsightedness, astigmatism, combinations
of these and presbyopia .The PlanoScan 2000 software minimizes tissue
removal, thus optimizing the treatment for each patient and increasing
long term safety.
The flying spot for each pulse removes 39 millionths of an inch
in 12 billionths of a second producing an extremely smooth corneal
surface. This aids accuracy of the treatment and the rapid return
of vision. The result is a very accurate and safe change to your
sight.
The unique infrared based active eye tracker has created a procedure
which is safer for the patient and provides the surgeon with more
precise control of the treatment.
The eye tracker detects changes in the position of the eye and is
capable of following and compensating for this movement in an appropriate
time scale so that the laser positions the next pulse at the desired
location. Approved by the influential United States Food and Drug
Administration this laser has produced the most accurate results
ever presented to the U.S. FDA and remains the benchmark against
which other lasers are compared.
