Trans PRK “No -Touch” Surface Laser Eye Surgery
With the Schwind Amaris laser system it is possible to perform “No-Touch” all laser surface laser eye surgery.
This Trans PRK (Trans Epithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy) Laser Eye Surgery is an advanced, unique version of surface treatments such as LASEK, Epi-Lasik and PRK.
Trans PRK is a transepithelial single step treatment that avoids the eye coming into contact with any instruments.
The surface layer of cells (epithelium) is gently removed by the laser and then the underlying cornea is reshaped by the laser in accordance with the patient’s individual refractive error.
A contact lens is placed on the cornea at the end of the laser eye surgery treatment and kept in place for 3 days to promote surface healing.
The eyes will be uncomfortable for a few days
Recovery time is longer than with LASIK laser eye surgery. It is recommended to take one week off work for initial recovery and sometimes longer is necessary.
Quality of vision improves over the first month or more and full visual recovery may take several months.
